Susanne Osanto

Susanne Osanto is Professor at the Department of Oncology of the Leiden University Medical Center in The Netherlands. She received her M.D. degree (cum laude) from the Leiden University Medical Center in The Netherlands and completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Leiden University. She completed a fellowship of the Dutch Cancer Foundation at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, the University of Leiden and the University of California San Diego (UCSD), Cancer Center, San Diego, California, US, where she worked on cloning of carcinogen-induced rabbit isoforms of cytochrome P450 (pharmacology and molecular biology). Subsequently, she joined the institution’s staff in Leiden. Thereafter she served as Visiting Professor at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina where she worked on murine gene and immuno-therapy models.

She is board-certified medical oncologist who is dedicated to improving the lives of patients with genitourinary tumours. Her primary area of expertise is kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma) and other uro-oncological tumours. Dr. Osanto is actively engaged in research and the development of new classes of cancer therapies, such as m-TOR inhibitors and a variety of anti-angiogenic agents. She is also experienced in delivering immunotherapy, including high dose IL-2 and LAK cells, to metastatic kidney cancer patients and explored non-myeloablative stem cell transplantation in RCC. In addition to her academic responsibilities, Dr. Osanto has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, various book chapters and edited a book on Testicular Cancer.

Dr. Osanto is a member of various professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Association of Urology (EAU) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). She served on various Committees and Advisory Boards. On a European level, she works to improve the quality and delivery of cancer care for individuals diagnosed with uro-oncological malignancies. She is the chairman of the Netherlands Committee Guidelines on Kidney cancer. She organized the 1st International State-of-the-Art in Bladder Cancer Conference (2010) and the 1st International State-of-the-Art in Prostate and Kidney Cancers Conference, both in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2013).
