Suzanne Laboyrie

In June 2019, I started my PhD project at the group of Joris Rotmans, after obtaining my Molecular Medicine master at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. The aim of my project is to improve arteriovenous fistula (AVF) maturation by conducting both in vitro and in vivo lab work.
In order to achieve this we study several aspects of vascular remodeling after AVF placement, amongst which:
1) The role of the von Willebrand factor and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in outward remodeling and the formation of intimal hyperplasia in vivo in mice and in vitro using patient samples
2) Maturation outcome in a murine disease model of ADPKD (autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease) both in vivo and in patients (retrospective study).
3) The role of the extracellular matrix in AVF maturation
4) The effect of AVF-induced altered hemodynamics
