Michiel Nijhoff, MD

Michiel Nijhoff is a medical doctor working as a clinical PhD researcher in the field of diabetology and transplantation. He obtained his medical degree in 2009 with honours at the Leiden University and started training as an internist in 2010. From 2014 onward he started working on his PhD, focusing on clinical and basal aspects of beta cell transplantation. In particular, his work focuses on improving outcomes and treatment regimens of islet transplantation, as well as measuring patient centered outcomes after beta cell transplantation. Furthermore, he started his endocrinology rotations in 2014, and as of May 1st 2017 he will finish his training as an internist/endocrinologist.
He received a Tjanka fellowship of E250.000,- in December 2016, which will be used to finance research on early interventions in type 1 diabetes.
