Daniele Spinozzi

Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. I am currently working on the DRAPH project: Decellularization and Repopulation of Aortic and Pulmonary Heart valves. Currently used valves suffer from calcification and progressive functional degeneration. These are suitable for use in older patients, but in young children (in which valves need to survive for several decades) new technology is needed. At LUMC, decellularization of faulty heart valves and recellularization of these valves with healthy tissue before transplantation is studied.
In November 2020, I obtained my PhD in Medical Sciences defending the thesis “Transplantation of cultured corneal endothelial cells: towards clinical application” at Leiden University.
During free time I like playing piano and doing sports, especially football and tennis. I also have passion for reading, photography and traveling.
