Vascular Surgery

Research within the Department of Vascular Surgery has a strong emphasis on translational research (close cooperation and integration of basic and clinical research). Research is essentially focused on (a) the (pathological) arterial vessel wall of peripheral arteries and (b) compromised organ perfusion and its consequences (ischemic damage and necrosis). Current main research topics are pathogenesis of peripheral artery disease, treatment of aneurysmal disease, vein graft disease and ischemia of the lower limb.
